由来：

Oxford Dictionaries blogによると、dopeが形容詞として使われるようになったのは、1981年。また、その年から始めてdopeは、マイナスイメージの単語からプラスイメージの単語に変わった。
それまでは、俗語として下記のような意味が主だった：


• 間抜けなやつ
• マリフアナ、ヘロイン等の麻薬
• 内報、秘密情報
