Why is the name of this blog "Helping the Twain Meet?"

The name of this blog is inspired by a line from Rudyard Kipling's Barrack-room Ballads:
このブログのタイトルはRudyard KiplingのBarrack-room Balladsの下記のくだりにインスピレションを受けてつけました。

"Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet."

Kipling was lamenting the gulf of understanding between the British and the people of the Indian subcontinent, but I think that there is a similar gulf between Japanese and native speakers of the English language. Hopefully, this blog can help reduce the size of that gulf.
このくだりで、Kiplingはイギリス人とインドの人々の間の隔たりを嘆いていたのですが、英語に関して言うと日本人と英語のネイティブスピーカーの間にも語学的な隔たりがあるので、このブログが少しでも役に立てばと思います。

I'll mainly be posting colloquial English words and phrases that most Japanese are probably not aware of. I can't promise to post something everyday, but I hope to write something a few times a week.
