いうまでもなく、derpyは前回（Question of the Day #628）のderpの形容詞系ですが、問題の見出しの記事の内容が説明するようにそれだけの意味ではありません。Life Hackerの記事にあるように、My Little Pony: Friendship is Magicの登場キャラクターにMuffinsという名の子馬がいます。このキャラクターは寄り目で面白い行動をとるために、Derpy Hooves（直訳：愚かな蹄）というあだ名を付けられています。すなわち、身体障害とそれに伴う行動によって差別されているのです。かつて、このような人を軽蔑的にretarded（知能の遅れた）と呼んでいましたが、当然、軽蔑的であるためにretardedは使用されなくなっています。そこで、今derpyはかつてのretardedと同じように使われていることにこの記事は警鐘を鳴らしています。
