英辞郎に答えがないので、他のサイトをググったら、これがありました。ペタエリ英語によると、


“hindsight is 20/20” は「振り返って見れば視力抜群」という意味で、噛み砕いていうと「物事が起きた後から見れば、過去の判断が正しかったか間違いだったかを言うのは簡単だが、逆に未来を予想するのは難しい」という意味になります。

It is easier to clearly reevaluate past actions or decisions than when they are being made or done; things are clearer ormore obvious when they are reflected upon. A reference to the visual acuity of normal eyesight (20/20 vision).

20/20は、アメリカで使用される視力検査の正常な視力の数値です。つまり、日本の1.0にあたります。

20フィートで1.75 mmの間隔の図形（例えば、視力検査表の円の切れ目）が識別できれば20/20（つまり1.0）の視力になります。したがって、視力0.5は、20/40ということです。
