I have grown up exposed quite often to harsh, blanketing criticism of the land I hail from.

基本的な使い方は、[somebody] hails from [somewhere]になります。ただし、somewhereは場所とは限らず、会社・組織・学校等の場合もあります。(下記例文を参照してください。)
