意味：

「kumbaya」ということばは、アメリカの奴隷制時代のあとに、アフリカのクレオール語で書かれた有名な曲から来たものです。後年になると、それはキャンプファイヤーを囲みながらみんなで歌う人気曲になり、特に、ボーイスカウトやガールスカウトの子供たちによく歌われるようになりました。 「kumbaya」ということばは、何も問題のない、完璧な協調と幸福というアイデアと結びつけて考えられるようになりました。 しかし現在、このことばは、このアイデアを信じる人々が無知であることを示すために、ネガティブな意味で用いられる場合が多くなっています。

この説明で抜けているのは、Kumbayaが米国黒人の訛りからできた言葉で Come by here（こっちに来て）からきています。歌詞の意味から捉えると、これは神様に「こっちに来て」ということになります。
